Time for Action

Over the past few weeks, I️ was able to not only relax with the winter break but also integrate my ISM and college work. For example, I️ was able to apply to three universities, start on my display board for research showcase, and come up with a different display idea of my original work. In addition, I️ was able to find time to myself to be mentally and physically prepared for the second semester.

Research showcase is coming up very soon, and I am very excited for it. This is because from my experience last year, everyone that came up to my table was so interested in the conversation and wanted to know more and more about what I was studying. This is a true boost in confidence to show that I know more than I think I do. Before the break, I had ordered my research showcase invitations, and I am satisfied with the incorporation of my color scheme once it came in. Regarding my display board, I was able to start in the break to try to add an extra step from last year. In ISM 1, I was not totally satisfied with my display because of its simplicity; however, for ISM 2 I wanted to go a little further. I decided to paint the middle flap of the trifold red and began the border and header. Over the week, I will be able to finish the synopsis of my mentor’s bio, what is cardiothoracic surgery explanation, and original work summary for the board.

My idea for my original work was to create a study of patient records with the help of my mentor to find if the true cause of heart conditions was lifestyle or genetics (family history). However, I realize as Research Showcase is fast approaching, I need to be able to depend on myself more for the project to be completed. Therefore, I decided to still keep the topic of lifestyle vs. genetics but instead present it in an infographic. I will be having a lot of research to provide credibility towards this display, so this will not be easy at all. However, I know that if I manage my time well I can complete the infographic with time to revise and polish.

All in all, these past few weeks have been a great break, but at the same time, it served as a call to action for the events that are fast approaching. My goals for this short week is to touch base with my mentor, complete my board, and finish most of my research for my original work.

Best Regards,
